How do most schools implement the program?
The program is designed to be flexible and can be implemented many different ways. We don't dictate how teachers run the program, what works best for you - is the way it should be implemented. In class, after school, during an invention week, etc.
Is my child eligible?
Any student from a participating district is eligible to participate in the IC.
What Grades can compete?
Kindergarten through 8th grade.
How much does it cost?
This program is free. All educational materials are on-line and available to teachers, students, and parents. There is no registration fee.
How do I get my child involved?
Check with your child's teacher to see if your school/district is participating in the Invention Convention. If not - contact Invention Convention offices for information on getting your school involved.
Where is the Invention Convention?
The Invention Convention runs in the school systems during the school year then culminates in a Regional finals.
My child was in the Invention Convention before. Can he/she participate again?
Yes. You may be in the Invention Convention as many times as you like - but only with a completely NEW invention idea. You may not re-enter your last idea.
What can my child win?
The Invention Convention rewards achievement with college scholarships and other prizes. At least 57 prizes are awarded. Top prize is $2,500 CollegeAdvantage 529 Savings Plan scholarship (through The Ohio Tuition Trust Authority - Official Scholarship Provider of the IC). Six - $500 CollegeAdvantage 529 Savings Plan scholarships - 1st place award in each grade category. Fifty additional prizes will be awarded.
Can a child win more than once?
A child can be in Invention Convention as many years as he/she is eligible - and can win each year. The Edison award is the only prize which will not be awarded to that same student more than once.
How big can models be?
Models may be no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet and fit on a table
top. Backboards are not required, but many participants believe
that they help with their presentation.
